Philip LaVerne Rare Unique Sweeping Wood Sculpture Coffee Table 1966 (Signed) - SOLD

Rare unique wood sculpture table, superbly hand-crafted organic sweeping and curving form in wood with thick customized glass top by Philip LaVerne, American 1966 (signed "Philip LaVerne” engraved into the wood on top). In 1966 Philip LaVerne experimented with wood sculptures for a short time so there are very few. This piece is constructed of rectangular wood blocks, each cut and molded to form a continuous curvaceous form which is supremely difficult. The craftsmanship is off the charts. The glass top was designed for the base.

The caption reads, “A unique wood coffee table, with its sweeping curving form composed of a block construction with a bronze support element and a custom glass top, was created by Philip LaVerne in 1966.” It is also discussed on page 225 in the introduction to the section.
