Cabinet With Stunning Jewelry Enamel Doors by Harvey Probber 1950s (Signed) - SOLD

Cabinet No.1079 in mahogany with 2 doors inset with jewelry enamel on copper graphic flower design and rosewood pulls by Harvey Probber, American 1950's (signed inside drawer). Harvey Probber's name is synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship. Probber looked for unique artwork to incorporate into his designs. These jewelry enamel doors were made by the artist Arpad Rosti. The abstract floral designs were influenced by the paintings and mural decorations of Henri Matisse.

This cabinet was part of the retrospective at the New York School of Interior Design: “Making Connections: Harvey Probber Furniture 1945-85” which opened February 20, 2020. Evan Lobel was associate curator.

Frank Kyle Extraordinary 3 Panel Screen with Japanese Motif 1950s

Extraordinary three panel screen in walnut and bronze by Frank Kyle, Mexico 1950's. One side of the screen features a pastoral scene with Japanese figures hand-painted on grass cloth. Kyle imported these paintings and incorporated them into his furniture and interiors. The reverse side features inlaid bronze strips in hieroglyphic patterns. The bottom and top brackets bring to mind pagoda roof lines and lend the screen its dynamic, geometric presence.

Frank Kyle was an American sculptor and furniture designer from Minneapolis, though he mainly lived in California. Kyle moved to Mexico City in the early 1950’s and opened his gallery where he exhibited his furniture pieces and sculptures.
