Paul Evans Rare Low Console Table in Sculpted Bronze Resin 1970 (Signed) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Unique low console table in sculpted bronze resin with gray slate top by Paul Evans, American 1970 (signed and dated, “PE 70”, on front) . Bronze resin was created from a mixture of epoxy resin and sand applied to a plywood base and sculpted into various swirls, drips and other patterns. Once hardened, the piece was sandblasted, sprayed with an atomized bronze finish, varnished, blown with a torch to provide a smoky look, polished, and then varnished again. The resulting work has a metallic sheen but is lightweight compared with something made of cast bronze. Roberto Estevez Monumental Stylized Torso in Glazierite 1980s

Evan Lobel

main.jpg

Large stylized torso in glazierite by Roberto Estevez for Karl Springer, American 1980's. Glazierite was a resin composite created by Karl Springer’s artisans. This model was also cast in bronze and can be seen in an Architectural Digest interior photographed in the 1980’s (see below and photo.)

Roberto Estevez was an extremely talented jewelry designer and sculptor. He designed jewelry for Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels as well as Tiffany. He had extraordinary talent in creating whimsical sculptures of animals and insects incorporating sea shells, ostrich eggs and other organic materials. He also created more serious works in small editions, mostly in bronze and brass, including those of monkeys and the human form, both male and female. Roberto Estevez was Karl Springer’s life partner until his death in the 1980’s. Estevez’s sophisticated and elegant designs fit in perfectly with Karl’s own aesthetic and Karl sold many of Roberto’s pieces through his showrooms.

Provenance:
Purchased from an employee of New York City Karl Springer showroom.

Reference:
Architectural Digest, July 1985, page 100 shows an image of this sculpture in Donald and Ivanka Trump's penthouse apartment with a description on the opposite page "...The bronze torso sculpture is by Roberto Estevez..."
