Rare and elegant "Kuan Su" coffee table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-applied colorful enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip. Kelvin LaVerne” on top). The LaVernes loved floral still lifes and the Kuan motif of interlocking circles is supposed to evoke the feeling of something from the past.

ALCHEMY: THE ART OF PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE written by Evan Lobel with Kelvin LaVerne, published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2024, this table is shown on page 81 in the section titled Historical Civilization Series. The caption reads, “The floral design, a theme the LaVernes came back to over and over, is engraved along with the intricate Kuan motif (interlocking circles), which is meant to evoke Chinoiserie decor from the 18th century.“
