ALCHEMY: THE ART OF PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE written by Evan Lobel with Kelvin LaVerne, published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2024, other works from this series are shown in the section The Cast Series on pages 174-5 with the caption,. “THE UNTRAMMELED MOOD OF THE ARTIST AT WORK, a cast wall hanging sculpture with male and female nudes dates from the 1970s. This small work explores the relationship between artist and model. When a model poses nude, there is a general inequality as she or he is undressed and vulnerable. This work strips away that inequality and puts them on equal footing.”
