Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Rare "The Untrammeled Mood of the Artist at Work" Pewter Wall Sculpture 1960s
Evan Lobel
"The Untrammeled Mood of the Artist at Work", a rare figural wall sculpture in solid pewter by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed on front “Philip Kelvin LaVerne”). The LaVernes did a small series of cast wall sculptures incorporating nude figures set in a painter’s studio in both solid bronze or pewter in the 1960’s. These works explore the inequality between a nude man or woman who is posing and the clothed painter. In that scenario, there is an inherent imbalance of power. By making them both naked in these works, the sense of inequality is removed. These hung in the original LaVerne Gallery. This is a rare collectors work of art and includes the original gallery label.
