"Peasants Plaque" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand enamel cloisonne by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed front bottom center "Kelvin + Philip LaVerne"). The engraved Chinese figures are exquisite. Back is finished in patinated bronze. The enamel cloisonne adds depth to the colors. This piece is impressive in size and composition.

Rare “Venus Contemplating” painting in engraved and patinated bronze with complex scene with enamel cloisonne by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960’s (signed “Philip.K LaVerne”). The LaVernes were often inspired by Greek mythology. The hand-brazed sculptured frame in patinated bronze adds another artistic dimension to the artwork. Original gallery label on back is from the Seymour Gallery where they artists showed their best artworks.

It’s a very unusual form and was done as a special order. The shape and scale are extraordinary.

The LaVernes were often inspired by nature and the sea specifically. Kelvin summered on Fire Island and the ocean there inspired this design. The LaVernes’ hand-brazed artworks are rare and noteworthy.
