Pair of rare and unique Galatea Table Lamps with cast female nude sculptures set on patinated bronze bases by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed “P.K. LaVerne” on back of each base, as well as “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on one of the sculptures’ legs). The female figures are based on the myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who makes an ivory statue representing his ideal woman and then falls in love with his own creation, which he names Galatea; the goddess Venus brings the statue to life in answer to his prayer. The LaVernes did a number of enchanting artworks based on mythology. These lamps are absolutely stunning. They have been rewired with new sockets and silk cords.
