Paul Evans Round Stalagmite Coffee Table in Sculptured Bronze 1969 (Signed) - SOLD

Round stalagmite coffee table in sculpted bronze by Paul Evans for Directional Furniture, American 1969 (signed "PE 69"). This piece was created from a mixture of epoxy resin and sand applied to a plywood base and sculpted into various swirls, drips and other patterns. Once hardened, the piece was sandblasted, sprayed with an atomized bronze finish, varnished, blown with a torch to provide a smoky look, polished, and then varnished again. The resulting work has a metallic sheen but is lightweight compared with something made of cast bronze.

Paul Evans Rare Double Pedestal in Polished Brass and Chrome 1970s (Signed)

Rare sculpture double pedestal from the 200 Series in tessellated polished brass and chrome by Paul Evans for Directional Furniture, Cityscape Series, American 1970's (signed “Paul Evans” in brass). This pedestal is a rare work in Evans’ Cityscape series and is simply stunning. The metals look matte because of the photo editing but they are polished chrome and brass. The environmental shows it with reflections.

Paul Evans Design & Sculptor by Jeffrey Head, published by Schiffer in 2012, the 200 Series is described on page 106 with various examples shown in tessellated metals on pages 107-113.

Hand carved “Buddha” sculpture in limestone on a wood base by Naomi   Feinberg, American 1960s.

Naomi Feinberg was a New York based sculptor who worked primarily in stone. She began sculpting in the 1940’s and became affiliated with artist group Studio 725 which was a consortium of woman artists working in Union Square NYC. She studied sculpture with Philip Darling, Jose De Creeft, and Lorrie Goulet at the New School, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Students League, and the School of Visual Arts A relative late comer to the art world, Naomi Feinberg emerged as highly accomplished, multi-faceted artist who juggled architectural coherence with a preoccupation with the human form, to create works that are both experimental and primitive.

Provenance:  The personal collection of the artist and then her family after her death.  This piece is part of the Lobel Modern's exhibition:  Naomi Feinberg:  A Woman Sculpting in a Man's World currently on exhibition in our Exhibit Gallery across the hall from our showroom.
