Philip LaVerne Unique Sweeping Sculpture Coffee Table in Wood 1966 (Signed) - ON HOLD
Evan Lobel
Rare unique wood sculpture table, superbly hand-crafted organic sweeping and curving form in wood with bronze support element and thick customized glass top by Philip LaVerne, American 1966 (signed three times - "Philip LaVerne” engraved into the bronze support element on top and “LaVerne Studio” on a brass placard on side near bottom and engraved on top “Philip LaVerne”). In 1966 Philip LaVerne experimented with wood sculptures while Kelvin was in Europe working on sketches for new designs. Only a few of these were made. This piece is constructed of rectangular wood blocks, each cut and molded to create a continuous curvaceous form which is supremely difficult. There is a bronze element as that was the medium he was best known for working with.
