Monumental and important “Good And Evil” pierced bronze painting in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne and hand-brazed sculptured frame with green patina by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed “Philip K. LaVerne” on front). This work retains the original Seymour Gallery label on the back which is where the artists showed their finest artworks. The frame is a hand-brazed and patinated sculpture unto itself. The enamel cloisonne gives incredible depth to the colors. This work is a masterpiece and is shown with the original drawing for the head by Philip LaVerne in ALCHEMY: THE ART OF PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE (see below). The LaVernes experimented with various sculptured cube tables in patinated bronze and each one is unique. This one retains the original showroom label on the bottom.

Very rare coffee table "The Garden at Versailles" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-painted enamels by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip + Kelvin LaVerne”). This coffee table is exquisite. It was made as a collector’s edition so there are very few. The LaVernes experimented with raising the edges of tables to more formally frame the artwork on the table top. The results speak for themselves.

Important "Adam and Eve" pierced bronze painting in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne and hand-brazed sculptured frame by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed). The LaVernes created the genre of “pierced bronze” paintings and sculpture. By adding a back panel and lifting the front away to create negative space, they were able to give their works added color, depth and complexity. This work was the first pierced bronze painting they made - they decided it was appropriate to start from the beginning, thus Adam and Eve. This is a seminal work.

Kelvin LaVerne Rare "Gladiator" Engraved Painting 1960 (Signed and Dated) - SOLD

Rare “Gladiator” painting, with victorious Roman gladiator standing over his defeated foe, in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne by Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960 (signed and dated “Kelvin LaVerne 1960” on the back). This is one of Kelvin LaVerne’s earliest works. The background is intentionally textured to give this work extra dimension. The lion on the gladiator’s shield is a beautiful touch. This is a small masterpiece.

Rare and important sculpture "Generation" with cast bronze figures and table top in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, 1970’s (signed, “Phillip K. Laverne” on table top.) Retains original showroom label with the title, “Admiration” - this was the original title of this work and the LaVernes decided that Generation was a better descriptive title so they changed it. There is support under the table top so that this piece can also serve as a coffee table or bench. The pieces from the Cast Series are among the LaVernes’ most important.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne "Leda and the Swan" Unique Wall Sculpture 1960s (Signed) - SOLD

Unique wall sculpture in Hydro Stone plaster with bronze frame depicting the myth of Leda and the Swan by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “PK LaVerne” on frame). Leda and the Swan is a Greek myth which the LaVernes revisited with several different works. In the myth, Zeus transforms himself into a beautiful swan and seduces Leda who he is in love with. This work is loosely based on a painting done by Michelangelo in 1530. The LaVernes were very knowledgeable about art history and had a deep fascination with historical cultures. It’s a stunning work of art.

LaVerne” on bottom right). Pierced bronze paintings are a genre which was created by the LaVernes and are among their most complex and beautiful works. Behind the front of the painting, which has sections that have been delicately cut away by hand, is a back panel which adds color and depth to the work.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Pair of Stunning "Galatea" Bronze Table Lamps 1970s (Signed) - SOLD

Pair of rare and unique Galatea Table Lamps with cast female nude sculptures set on patinated bronze bases by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed “P.K. LaVerne” on back of each base, as well as “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on one of the sculptures’ legs). The female figures are based on the myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who makes an ivory statue representing his ideal woman and then falls in love with his own creation, which he names Galatea; the goddess Venus brings the statue to life in answer to his prayer. The LaVernes did a number of enchanting artworks based on mythology. These lamps are absolutely stunning. They have been rewired with new sockets and silk cords.

On the left side, there is an artist sketching on the steps of the Erectheum ruins. Kelvin LaVerne explained to Evan Lobel that he drew himself into the scene. On the right side is the Parthenon. Muses stand in the foreground. This is a superb work of art.

Rare and important “Repose” or “Brooding Woman” coffee table with cast bronze female nude on a patinated base with bronze tones, welded cords and glass top by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970s (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on base). This work was based on a model who posed for the LaVernes who was having a stressful day. So they captured her emotions for this sculpture. This sculpture was designed with the glass integral to the weightiness of the emotions of the model.

Rare and Important “Persephone Enslaved” cast sculpture in patinated bronze with green patina and welded chain elements on a patinated bronze base with custom glass top by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1970's (signed “Philip K LaVerne” on base).  The LaVernes were often inspired by Greek mytholoday. The myth of Persephone was one of Kelvin’s favorites. Cast sculptures were only done for a few years in the early 1970’s as they were laborious and expensive to produce.
