Evan Lobel

One-of-a-kind life size art installation, "La Famille", with cast and patinated bronze sculptures of father, mother and daughter holding a patinated and engraved bronze and pewter table top, incorporating an abstract painting with enamel cloisonne, by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970s (signed twice: “Philip+Kelvin LaVerne” on edge of table top, and “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” in colored part of table top). The solid bronze sculptures were attained via lost wax process which is extremely difficult with works of this size and complexity. As stated by Kelvin LaVerne discussing this unique work, “La Famille” is a sculpture of a typical family in which their love for each other is expressed in a quiet and subtle manner rather than a picture of them embracing.” It’s the celebration of the a family which enjoys every moment of being together. This work was a unique art installation which resided in their gallery. A photo of this work in the Seymour Gallery section of the LaVerne gallery is shown in this listing. Only the finest artworks were exhibited in the Seymour Gallery.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Rare and Important Sculpture in Cast Bronze 1960s (Signed)

Evan Lobel

“Femme de Menage” aka “La Bonne”, a very rare and important large cast figural bronze sculpture attained via lost wax process, table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne, by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, edition of 3, American, 1960s (signed twice on bronze and also retains the original gallery label). The base is on recessed castors and is made of patinated bronze which was buried in special soil to attain its unique characteristics. This incredible sculpture was made as a tribute to the housekeeper; someone often in the background who makes life happier and easier for everyone around them. This work represents their love of humanity in general. The LaVernes did several works centered on love and family. The difficulty in casting such a large figure in bronze should not be understated. And the table top is simply a stunning work of art. The table top could support a vase or other decorative item if so desired. This work resided in the Seymour Gallery section of the LaVerne Gallery, where they featured their best artworks.
