Evan Lobel
Rare and important sculpture "Generation" with cast bronze figures and table top in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, 1970’s (signed, “Phillip K. Laverne” on table top.) Retains original showroom label with the title, “Admiration” - this was the original title of this work and the LaVernes decided that Generation was a better descriptive title so they changed it. There is support under the table top so that this piece can also serve as a coffee table or bench. The pieces from the Cast Series are among the LaVernes’ most important.

ALCHEMY: THE ART OF PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE written by Evan Lobel with Kelvin LaVerne, published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2024, this sculpture is shown on pages 150-151 in the section The Cast Series. The caption reads, “The 1970s GENERATION is a bronze sculpture with a tabletop in patinated bronze and pewter with engraving and enamel cloisonne. Kelvin LaVerne notes on this work: “ The two children supporting the top symbolize the next generation, as well as every man and woman, the child we have been. The cat represents the family pet. Although freestanding, Philip designed a very unique sculptured top and platform for the piece, to create a more contemporary version as well as uniting the figures visually. ”
