Large sectional sofa, upholstered with lucite bases, by Vladimir Kagan, Omnibus Collection, American 1975. This sofa is completely modular with 1 Corner with extension unit, 1 High-Low unit, and 1 Love seat with extension unit which slides under the High-Low. The lucite bases give the impression that the sofa is floating above the ground. An iconic Kagan design.

Raphael Important Lacquered Credenza With Textured Bronze Doors 1960s - SOLD

Rare and important long credenza, case with parchment color lacquer and accordion doors in unique Beka resin in a volcanic bronze finish with chic brass pulls on glass bases with brass sabots, by Raphael (Raphael Raffel), France 1960s. Keys at bottom lock the doors. Documented pieces by this extraordinary French interior designer and furniture designer are rare. His refined modernist works are among the best.

Reference:
Raphael decorateur by Guy Bloch-Champfort and published by Les Editions de l’Amateur in 2002, this piece is shown on page 148 with the caption “Endfilade aux portes en accordeon, laque de Beka acaille et laque arrachee, pieds in verre Securit, debut des annes 60. (Galarie L’Art de vivre, New York).

Provenance:
Purchased by the last owner at Galerie L’Art de Vivre in the 1990’s and remained in her Park Ave NYC apartment until purchase by Lobel Modern. Original folder with L’Art de Vivre logo with historical material comes with piece.

Important and rare “Sculpture Top Coffee Table” in welded and patinated steel, color pigments, 24 karat gold leaf with glass top by Paul Evans, American 1973  (signed “Paul Evans 73’ on side).  This was custom made to be a coffee table—it is extremely rare.  Most of these welded panels were designed for cabinets or wall hanging flat sculpture panels. An extraordinary example of Paul Evans’ artistic genius.

Tommi Parzinger Rare 4 Door Lacquered Cabinet with Chrome Base 1960s (Signed) - SOLD

Rare 4 door liquor cabinet model no. P5 with hand-lacquered doors, interior light, and architectural chrome base by Tommi Parzinger for Parzinger Originals, American 1960's (signed with Parzinger Originals signature under drawer). According to Donald Cameron (Tommi Parzinger’s partner) before he passed away, this was a custom order with 4 doors. This model is shown in the catalog and was typically made in a 2 door version. The workmanship is incredible.

The Complete Kagan by Vladimir Kagan (forward by Tom Ford), published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2004, on page 106 there is a photo of this piece with a matching dining table stating “Subtle curves characterized a c. 1953 dining room designed for this Manhattan apartment. The graceful shape of the dining table top complemented the bowed front of the buffet, while the almond shape of the inset Venetian mosaics in both were mimicked by the custom-made chandelier above.”

Joseph Demarais Textural Organic Lithograph 1968 (signed) - SOLD

Original complex organic lithograph with three-dimensional impression by Joseph Demarais, 1968 (1927-1971), artists proof and signed.  He was a talented artist and print maker. 

Joseph Demarais was born in 1927 in Hoboken, NJ. He is known as an innovative printmaker,  He pushed the limits of printmaking, using copper, zinc, masonite and acetate to achieve textural surfaces. During his seven year career as a printmaker, his three-dimensional impression created on handmade paper were exhibited in more than 100 galleries and museums in the United States and Europe. The director and founder of the International Print Society, Franz Geierhaas, published “The Graphic Works of Joseph Demarais: A Catalogue Raisonne”, detailing his life and work. Demarais passed away from heart complications in 1971, at age 44.  His work is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Harvard Art Museums, Brooklyn Museum and other collections..
