Alex Katz "Large Head of Vincent" Print 1982 (Signed and Numbered) - SOLD

Evan Lobel

Impressive framed "Large Head of Vincent", a sugarlift aquatint on paper, signed and numbered 50/50 on the lower left corner by Alex Katz, American 1982. This was an edition of 50 with 10 artists proofs printed by Orlando Condeso, Condeso & Brokopp Studios and published by Brooke Alexander, Inc., New York. The frame is wood with lucite. This work has a great scale and presence. There is currently a retrospective on Alex Katz at the Guggenheim Museum - it’s excellent. We highly recommend seeing it.

Authentic hand-carved African sculpture, woman's head with four horns, by the Ekoi tribe in Nigeria with a suede base by Karl Springer, American, 1980's (photo of original Karl Springer tag included). The horns are representations of ethnic hair styling. Karl Springer had a scout who traveled the world seeking out exceptional handcrafted ethnic art pieces. Karl Springer mounted them on custom bases and sold them in his showroom. Photo from Karl Springer's showroom in the 1980's displays the African art he carried.

Hand-etched circular motifs on top by glass artist Joseph Spohr who collaborated with Springer on special pieces. This coffee table is unique and absolutely stunning.

Naomi Feinberg was a New York based sculptor who worked primarily in stone. She began sculpting in the 1940’s and became affiliated with artist group Studio 725 which was a consortium of woman artists working in Union Square NYC. She studied sculpture with Philip Darling, Jose De Creeft, and Lorrie Goulet at the New School, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Students League, and the School of Visual Arts A relative late comer to the art world, Naomi Feinberg emerged as highly accomplished, multi-faceted artist who juggled architectural coherence with a preoccupation with the human form, to create works that are both experimental and primitive. She is included in the archives of American art at the Smithsonian Institute.

Provenance:  The personal collection of the artist thence her family after her death. In 2020 Lobel Modern did an exhibition on her work:  Naomi Feinberg:  A Woman Sculpting in a Man's World.
