Karl Springer "Greek Column Table Lamp" in Solid Lucite 1980s

Evan Lobel

"Greek Column Table Lamp" in solid lucite with brass hardware by Karl Springer, American 1980's. The cord is embedded into the side of the lamp, so it is invisible when looking from the front. Lucite has been cleaned and polished. Brass has been newly polished and lacquered. Lamp has been rewired. Springer was inspired by Classicism and this refined lamp would go in any interior.

Silas Seandel Sculptural Coffee Table with Glass Top 1970s (Signed)

Coffee table with organic shape base in cast solid resin to resemble concrete with thick glass top by Silas Seandel, American 1970's (signed “Silas Seandel (C)” on base). This series in cast resin was made for a special collection shown at Bloomingdales in their Home Department in the 1970’s. Seandel’s novel use of resin to make a functional sculpture makes this coffee table a standout. New glass top fabricated by Lobel Modern.

Jules Leleu Set of Three Double Sconces with Faceted Glass Crystals Ca 1948 (Signed)

Set of three sconces model no. 3626 in bronze with faceted glass crystals by Leleu, France c.1948 (stamped “LELEU PARIS” on back). These sconces have been restored and newly rewired and take standard candelabra bulbs. These iconic sconces are the epidemy of refined. Bronze back plates added by Lobel Modern so they fit over a standard American electrical box. They can be easily removed.

The House of Leleu, Classic French Style For a Modern World 1920-1973 under the direction of Francoise Siriex and published by Hudson Hills Press, this model sconce is shown on the inside title page and also inside with the description below, “Double Sconce no. 3626 in gilt bronze with Bohemian crystal shades, 1948”.

Sides are trimmed in bronze. Philip and Kelvin LaVerne did a small series of unique abstract paintings which hung in their gallery until they were sold. Nature was often an inspiration for the LaVernes.

The LaVernes were constantly experimenting with different mediums and different types of sculptures and artworks. Philip and Kelvin LaVerne did a small series of unique abstract paintings which hung in their gallery until they were sold. Only a handful were ever made.

Anzolo Fuga Large Hand-Blown Glass "Murrine Incatenate" Vase ca 1960

Evan Lobel

Exceptional large hand-blown glass vase from the “Murrine Incatenate” series, incalmo with green and pink sections and spiraling yellow and blue murrhines by Anzolo Fuga for Arte Vetraria Muranese (A.V.E.M.). Murano Italy, ca. 1960. This is one of the largest glass designs by Fuga. The artisanship is superb and the colors and movement are breathtaking.

Literature:  Anzolo Fuga, Murano Glass Artist, Designs for A.V.E.M. by Rosa Barovier Mentasti, published by Acanthus Press in 2005, section titled "MURRINE INCATANATE 1959-60", with a description of the series on page 122 and two examples of this model shown on pages 144 and 145.

Provenance: Evan Lobel purchased this piece directly from A.V.E.M. in 2001 as part of a large collection of pieces stored there from the 1940’s, 1950’s and 60’s.
