Exceptional "Pygmalion" painting in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with complex scene in enamel cloisonne with hand-brazed sculptured frame by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on front of painting). This work retains the Seymour Gallery label on the back. The Seymour Gallery was located inside the LaVerne Gallery and showcased their finest artworks. The LaVerne's experimented with assymetry in several of their works. The hand-brazed bronze sculptured frame adds another artistic element to this artwork. This artwork is magnificent.

The caption reads, “PYGMALION, a complex assymetrical work in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter and enamel cloisonne with a hand-brazed sculptured frame, was created in the 1970s. Kelvin explains: “According to Ovid in Metamorphoses, the goddess Aphrodite answers the sculptor Pygmalion’s prayer to bring Galatea, a sculpure that he had created and fall in love with, to life. Today, the myth is analogous to a man falling in love with his work.”
