Philip & Kelvin LaVerne Important Illuminated Bronze Sculptures "Grace and Harmony" ca. 1970 (Signed)

Evan Lobel

_MG_624122.jpg

One-of-a-kind pair of large illuminated sculptures, “Grace and Harmony”, hand-brazed in bronze tones, one with green patina and the other highly textured, with complex tubular elements welded around them, by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, American ca. 1970 (signed on bases “Philip + Kelvin LaVerne”).  Philip & Kelvin LaVerne produced only these 2 illuminated sculptures and they believed the lighting in back and above created halos around them giving them a spiritual aura.  On the backs are the original fluorescent fixtures which was commonly used in the 1970’s.  On top are 2 bulbs on each (one in the white orb and the other recessed in the open top).  These artworks were called “functional sculptures” by the LaVernes and these are two of the absolute best.
