Stunning unique table lamp, ceramic double gourd in Chinese red lacquer with gold leaf overlay, by Karl Springer, American 1980's. This lamp was in the Springer lighting line, but this variation is unique. Brass has been polished and lacquered. Newly rewired with new sockets and silk cord. This lamp is a work of art.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Rare "Fragonard Pierced" Coffee Table 1960s (Signed)

Exceptional and rare “Fragonard Pierced” Coffee Table in patinated, engraved and pierced bronze and pewter, intricately cut with enamel cloisonne and gold and copper leaf with an inset glass top, by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1960’s (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne”). These tables were cut by Kelvin's hand. This series always included Chinese figures with at least one animal. The delicate fretwork is a marvel. An inset glass top is part of the design.

The caption reads, “The 1960s FRAGONARD PIERCED coffee table is one of the most extraordinary designs in the Historical Civlization Series as it combines extremely difficult aspects of the LaVernes’ artisanship. The pierced bronze tabletops were cut by Kelvin’s hand. This process was time-consuming, very delicate and often with hand-applied gold and copper leaf over the competed floral filigree. The tops of this series always contain Asian figures and at least one animal colored with enamel cloisonne that added depth.”

Unique large chandelier in patinated and textured bronze with 12 arms each with a globe with crackled glass by Paul Evans, American 1970's. Chandeliers by Paul Evans are rare. The scale of this one makes it incredible. It is Brutalism at its best. It was custom made for the Montefiore Synagogue in Lowell, MA which was built in 1969/70.

Philip & Kelvin LaVerne "Persephone Enslaved" Sculpture Coffee Table 1970s (Signed) - SOLD

Rare and Important “Persephone Enslaved” cast sculpture in patinated bronze with green patina and welded chain elements on a patinated bronze base with custom glass top by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1970's (signed “Philip K LaVerne” on base).  The LaVernes were often inspired by Greek mytholoday. The myth of Persephone was one of Kelvin’s favorites. Cast sculptures were only done for a few years in the early 1970’s as they were laborious and expensive to produce.

Unique cast and patinated bronze sculpture of a woman's torso in an arabesque pose on a black lacquer wood base by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (signed “PK LaVerne” on back of leg). The human form is one of the hardest to sculpt and cast. This work is inspired by dance and ballet. The LaVernes took an interest in all art forms and enjoyed sculpting the human body. It’s a stunning piece.

AVEM Artistic Production 1932-1972 by Marc Heiremans published by Arnoldsche in 2020, pages 48 through 55 show similar pieces by Giulio Radi with the same technique.

Evan Lobel purchased this piece directly from A.V.E.M. in 2001 as part of a large collection of original works stored there from the 1940’s, 1950’s and 60’s.
