Hand-blown vase with vertical rods by Anzolo Fuga for AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), Murano Italy, 1955-6. The colorful rods interspersed among the white rods creates a very striking design.

Philip & Kelvin LaVerne "Persephone Enslaved" Sculpture Coffee Table 1970s (Signed)

Rare and Important “Persephone Enslaved” cast sculpture in patinated bronze with green patina and welded chain elements on a patinated bronze base with custom glass top by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1970's (signed “Philip K LaVerne” on base).  The LaVernes were often inspired by Greek mytholoday. The myth of Persephone was one of Kelvin’s favorites. Cast sculptures were only done for a few years in the early 1970’s as they were laborious and expensive to produce.

Philip and Kelvin LaVerne Exceptional "Imperial Palace Coffee Table" 1970s (Signed)

Rare and exceptional "Imperial Palace Coffee Table" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter subtle hand-painted enamels and curved ends and sculptural base by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (with original gallery label on bottom). This works is considered one of their best with an Asian motif. The form and design of the top and base are simply superb.

ALCHEMY: THE ART OF PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE written by Evan Lobel with Kelvin LaVerne, published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2024, this important sculpture is shown on pages 72-73 in the section titled Historical Civilization Series. The caption reads, “The IMPERIAL PALACE coffee table was created in the 1970s. The shape of the top is perfectly matched to the shape of the base. Because the sculptural form is the focal point of this design, the engraved top has only very subtle coloration.” It is shown with the original black and white ad.

Harvey Probber Rare Etched Pewter Top Coffee Table 1950s

Rare and exceptional coffee table No. 1322 with etched pewter top on a mahogany base by Harvey Probber, American 1950's. This coffee table was only in production for a short time; it is shown in the catalog from the 1950’s. The etched metal top was made by artist Arpad Rosti with whom Probber collaborated on several designs. The intricate pattern on the top is stunning.

This coffee table was part of the retrospective at the New York School of Interior Design: “Making Connections: Harvey Probber Furniture 1945-85” which opened February 20, 2020. Evan Lobel was Associate Curator.

Naomi Feinberg "Fractured Planet" Sculpture in Italian Red Levanto 1960s

Extraordinary hand carved “Fractured Planet” sculpture in Italian Red Levanto marble on an ebonized wood base by Naomi Feinberg, American 1960’s.

Naomi Feinberg was a New York based sculptor who worked primarily in stone. She began sculpting in the 1940’s and became affiliated with artist group Studio 725 which was a consortium of woman artists working in Union Square NYC. She studied sculpture with Philip Darling, Jose De Creeft, and Lorrie Goulet at the New School, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Students League, and the School of Visual Arts A relative late comer to the art world, Naomi Feinberg emerged as highly accomplished, multi-faceted artist who juggled architectural coherence with a preoccupation with the human form, to create works that are both experimental and primitive.

Provenance:  The personal collection of the artist and then her family after her death.  This piece is part of the Lobel Modern's exhibition:  Naomi Feinberg:  A Woman Sculpting in a Man's World currently on exhibition in our Exhibit Gallery across the hall from our showroom.

"Special Madame Pompadour", a coffee table in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne by Philip and Kelvin Laverne, American 1960's (signed on top “Philip Kelvin Laverne”). The coloration of this table is exquisite. Has the original gallery labeling on the bottom. It’s a gem. The enamel cloisonne enhances the depth of the colors.
